Personal Information:
I'm a long time advocate and student of building via strawbale, and other green building and living techniques. Moderator of an on-line Internet email based chat community hosted by Yahoo, for the past seven years. OkieBaleHeads, has been a small local group of common individuals willing to converse on just about any green topic. Sometimes, we just chat, like an extended family. Not any rocket scientists, or huge super-Ego's in our group, just friends willing to share, knowledge, experience and life's lessons. Our main members' are within a five state region surrounding Oklahoma. But locallity is not a prerequisite for membership. Anyone, is welcome to join! Check us out at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OkieBaleHeads/ . Spammers' however will be quickly swatted!
I'm a Chef, by trade. Living in the Ozark hills north of Springfield, Mo. -Am an avid organic gardener, hunter and fisherman, living the remote rural lifestyle. I was briefly written about in Carolyn Roberts book; "A House of Straw." (a good read) About my lending a hand in building her beautiful Tucson dessert straw bale home. And, with a pinch of luck, might find myself soon being published as a contributing article author, in "The Last Straw" Journal.

holy smokes Mark, I just read the note you wrote me (it was to my editor account so I didn't see it until just now). I haven't been keeping up with the Okiebaleheads newsletter lately so I hadn't seen the postings about your ladder incident! I hope all is okay. I've been sending some folks to your newsletter and it looks like things are pretty vibrant over there. Hang in there buddy. Max
Oh? -Sorry Max.. I forgot to acknowledge you, too.. -Glad to have you in my corner. Simpson's fans (with sick humor), seem to understand the gravity of life. Defy gravity, and you die!!! -LOL? Thanx agiain, for the links.. Roger Wilco.. Over, and out..

(if anyone in the IT department is listen in?) -WE (meaning, me) has need of a speel-checker on this thang... See, what I meen?? ;)
Hay there. Bart.. Actually, no I don't. I've lent a hand in building, but so far I'm stuck in a wonderfully old A frame cabinm stuck way out in the woods. I'll admit, I'm puzzled, what do you mean by a modern one? Do you mean, built to current living standards, or simply having indoor plumbing?
I don't know your location Bart, so pointing you in the right dirrection migth be a wee-bit difficult. Sadly, most that I personally know of, are not right next door either. Eurika Springs, Ark. has a load of them, which is closest to my location. And, I know of several scattered over a large area in Oklahoma. Not to forget Carolyn Robert's one I helped build in Tucson.
If you're anywhere in the mid-central states? I'll encourage you to hook-up and listen into the chatter on our chat group hosted by Yahoo. Okiebaleheads. I'll admit, I'm tired and lazy.. otherwise, I'd post the link. Just go to Yahoo, go to groups, and type in okiebaleheads, in the search window.. Should take about thirty seconds. Join up? We can chew the straw together.
On to, much delyed response on my part. Thanx, Hillary.. At current, I'd more likely be reporting the projects of others' on our Okiebaleheads list. I've got "plans" that Davinchi, would be proud of. And, with family fanaggling involved? -A perfect site. I've given up on HGTV providing the answer to my impass. With all taken into consideration.. I'd say it would be an entire seasons' episodes. With the details I have in mind, it would be a spell binder, for the audience, to see the next episode. As they say.. all it takes' is money.. Or, at least the availabilty.
Such a hottie, and smart too! Obviously, too good for the likes of me? Enuf4now, with all of my blabbering..
Oh? Before I log off.. We've got two SB builders' in Oklahoma, that are having a difficult time finding locally produced straw. Should, anyone out there have a solution to their plight? Please let me know personally, or, via our group.. "That's all the news, that isn't."
Regards to all..

hey Spuds, I'm curious, do you live in a straw bale house? Can you point me to any modern ones?
Glad to have you on Building Green, Mark! We'll soon be adding a photo upload feature, and I'd love to see some of your projects.
