Hello,
My husband and I are planning to move out to our 24 acre ranch in the country, which is located near Palestine, Texas. We currently live in Dallas, Texas and truly wish to move out of the city to raise our 6 year son in a smaller community.

There is an older home currently on the property, but it does not meet our needs if we were to move there on a full time basis. Our dream is to build a green self-sustainable home and utilize solar for electricity, as well as our own well for drinking. However, one issue we are contending with is the high humidity factor in East Texas. We have discussed the possibility of building a timber framed home, which utilizes far less wood than a traditional wood home, as well the option of building separate attached buildings that enable you to cool/heat only as needed.

I would be interested in hearing any suggestions you may have for building green in such a humid environment. We are also very interested in the possibility of building our home in cooperation with a Green TV show. We have watched several episodes of building green homes, but have never seen one built in our type of environment.
