Lisa Walker

Lisa Walker is the principal of MarketAbilities, a marketing and business development consultancy, where she is able to draw on a wide-ranging career that includes success in such past senior management positions as campaign director and chief political strategist, senior advisor on economic and international trade development, legislative and governmental affairs specialist, and small business entrepreneurship. She enjoys developing new and traditional media strategies for start-ups as well as for existing businesses seeking to expand market share. At the US Department of Commerce during the Clinton Administration, she worked on economic development and international trade issues while providing planning and logistical support for Cabinet level trade missions around the world. Her appointment culminated in assignment to Johannesburg, South Africa, where she directed the Ronald H. Brown Commercial Center, promoting US and Southern African trade partnerships as well as initiatives to foster greater corporate social responsibility. Current clients include Building Green TV, Pierce Promotions and Event Management and volunteer support for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland and the World Affairs Council of Maine. Lisa has a Master’s degree in public policy from the George Washington University in Washington, DC, and a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. As a former small business owner and importer, she traded in artifacts and home furnishings from sub-Saharan Africa. Her company, Ubuntu Imports, was founded on a fair trade principles. Ubuntu is a Bantu language concept meaning shared humanity, interconnectedness and responsibility. She ultimately hopes to use her marketing and business development acumen to help create sustainable enterprises in underdeveloped regions of the world with a focus on empowering women, sustaining families and protecting the environment.
