Central Vacuum Automatic Dust Pan

Central Vacuum Automatic Dust Pan

Automatic Dust Pans save energy as you sweep the dirt into your vacuum and turn the system on for just a second to pick up the mess instead of turning on the system and using the hose and floor tool to clean up.

Save Energy?

Hello, I'm wondering how this product would help save energy while I clean? Since this site is about building green I'd assume it would me electrical energy am I right? If anything you are using more energy by using electrical energy to pick up the dirt instead of bending over with a dust pan. Or is there something else I am missing? Anyone Know? I purchased one to be installed in our new home that is being built I'm just doing some reasearch.

Thanks,
Mike

For those who own a central

For those who own a central vacuum system, taking out the hose and using it to clean up a mess requires your system to run quite a bit longer than sweeping the mess into an automatic dust pan where the system is activated for only a few seconds. I agree a regular dust pan would be the most energy efficient, but not nearly as convenient.

Central Vacuum Systems are

Central Vacuum Systems are considered a green option and actually add LEEDS(?) points to a green building project. I guess a dust pan and broom would be the most energy efficient, but central vacs actually improve indoor air quality. A vac pan would save energy because you would use a broom and just run it for a few seconds as opposed to using a central vac hose and floor tool to pick up the mess.
