Case Study Tsunami

Case Study Tsunami

Time fly's .......... this was a case study we did with regards to Tsunami relief efforts. We used a 40 foot standard cargo container not only for shipping, but also for the center element to connect four (4) family shelters with it. The container became the center, sheltering the plumbing, kitchen, and bathroom facilities. The plumbing was hidden in a false floor system, and water tanks were installed in the ceiling for collecting rain water. The Hook&Build™ Building System was directly locked towards the container from the outside. Unfortunately, this idea has not yet been implemented.

We still think this concept has potential in areas where shelters are needed. Different designs can be accomplished not only for shelters and homes, but also for schools, hospitals etc.. The container could be of a very important key element in the structure.

Disaster site-built homes

I've seen a number of different ways those standard cargo containers are already being used to build consumer homes, but their application to disaster relief efforts are much more logical in my view. Not only can you ship all of the building materials inside what will be part of the structure, but in areas that are already have problematic environments, the massive weight of the cargo container anchors all four dwellings to the ground extremely securely; possibly even better than a foundation could do, depending on certain factors. These shelters also have really great usability, even for a fairly large family. Bravo.

container kits

pretty ingenious -- I think this is my favorite of the designs you've posted so far Wolf. Aside from the fact that it's built for disasters, I hope it's able to see the light of day. There are some really neat things happening wrt disaster housing these days-- it's neat to see some real innovation, and especially that many of these inexpensive /emergency units actually could be decent places to live instead of just cheap little boxes. This is also cool because I've been wondering if the shipping containers are just novel design elements, or if they can really be practical-- here they're an integral part of the transporation and the unit itself!

Container Kit

Thank you Max for the kind words. I will include a floor plan, just one can see the simplicity of it.
