Affordable LEED Live/Work Space for Artists

News flash: A super interesting, affordable, green mixed-use project in Southern California just received some amazing support -- $20 million in low-income housing tax credits by the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee.

That's big news for the WAV Project in Ventura, CA, which has been designed primarily as a live/work community for local (and non-local) artists.

But that's only where the cool nature of the project begins. WAV will also be LEED Certified; it will introduce the region's first car sharing program; and, according to the developer's promotional material, it will be the nation's first mixed-income, mixed-use community to offer supportive housing to homeless families.

We've been following this project for quite some time and it's exciting to see it finally get some real momentum.

The project is being spearheaded by PLACE, a national nonprofit organization that helps communities create state-of-the-art buildings and neighborhoods that bring together the arts, environmentalism, and social justice. It was designed by Santos Prescott Architects with executive architect CardeTen Architects.

If all goes as planned, WAV will offer eighty-two new homes for mixed-income residents, a theater/gallery, 6,177 square feet of commercial space and three parks. Fifty-four units will be specially designed as live/work space for artists and are guaranteed to remain affordable for at least fifty-five years.

The project also includes 13 (LEED Certified) market-rate condominium, which are still available. Interested in buying one? Click here!
