Hands-free faucet?

A reader recently emailed us this question:

I would like to change my kitchen faucet to a hands free faucet, but am having trouble finding one (I'm in San Jose). Do you have any recommendations for one that is actually practical for kitchen use and has a flexible coil that allows the faucet to detach?

Thanks,

Hope

Hands-Free Kitchen Faucet

A side spray & hands free from Danze. Good match. You can also you the lever like a regular faucet if you choose.

How about a foot pump?

It's unconventional, but is in fact hands free. I had one of these on a boat, and it was easy to use and dramatically reduces water waste. You can buy one of these at a marine store like Westmarine, and install it yourself if you're handy.

Handfree faucets

Check out the following two companies:

2- http://www.pedalvalve.com/index.html
I don't have any experience with these products. I am just webbrowsing for one.

Try searching for "Sensor" instead of "Hands-Free".

I am having trouble imagining why a retractable attachment would be wanted in an automatic sensor faucet. Generally you would want the sprayer to be off while you are holding it until you squeeze it on. With a sensor, the faucet would turn on prematurely.

Retractable sprayers are used in situations where the faucet is too low for a function such as filling a tall pot or washing large objects. In a sensor faucet, this could be accomplished with a wall-mounted sensor faucet placed high enough to allow such functions. Alternately, it could be accomplished with a gooseneck style sensor faucet. Or, you could combine both with a wall-mounted gooseneck sensor design.

I am not certain why the questioner specified my hometown of San Jose, as most faucets are manufactured outside of the country. The iTouchless EZ faucet adapter was designed and is distributed from Foster City here in the SF Bay Area. If the questioner was looking for the benefit of buying local, this could be an option for them. It would also enable them to purchase a conventional faucet with a retractable sprayer, and use the EZ Faucet to adapt it to become an automatic sensor faucet.

If the questioner was looking for the ability to see the faucet as opposed to purchasing online, Fixtures N’ Faucets in San Mateo has the largest showroom that includes sensor faucets.

I hope this helps!
