New Cool Thing Alert: mkLoft!

Just in case you were too wrapped up in pumpkin carving, putting the finishing touches on the perfect green Halloween costume, or subsequent pumpkin composting and missed this big piece of green building news, we thought we'd clue you in: According to a post at Jetson Green, yesterday Michelle Kaufmann Designs officially announced their solar-ready green townhouse, mkLoft.

Fans of Michelle Kaufmann's green prefab homes (the Glidehouse, Sunset Breezehouse, mkLotus, etc.) will find a lot more of what they admire in these 2 bedroom, 2 bath lofts.

We're already in love with the fantastically high ceilings and the breezy spacious feel (a Kaufmann trademark, to be sure) of the main room. Then, of course, there are all the green materials and technologies: energy-efficient foam insulation, dual-pane windows with low-E glazing, water-saving plumbing, eco-friendly finishes, and the ability to easily add solar, geothermal, or radiant heat.

You can see floorplans here, and more about all the great green touches here.

As Jetson Green explains, this is "the ultimate multifamily solution for developers wanting to go green." We can't wait to see a few in our neighborhood!

Cool thing

is right. There's all kinds of crazy innovation coming out of that place! We popped in and visited her office last week-- what a bunch of smarties. I didn't get any photos but here's one more from WCG with Kevin:
