Okay, this is a bit off topic, but it's too outlandish not to mention: The government of Thailand has launched the world's first environmental satellite, according to Lime. The satellite will help Thai government agencies monitor crops, and also to track illegal logging and spot the cultivation of opium poppies. Big Green Brother? Maybe so, but they say you can't fool Mother Nature anyway.

Enviro's in space
Just as we (well actually the government) are cutting back on NASA's satellites that monitor weather trends. Sometimes I think we take one step forward - we seem to LEED the world in greenbuilding certification systems - yet step backwards from monitoring the state of global climate change etc.
To keep the thread off-topic I just watched the HBO series "From the Earth to the Moon" (again) and was amazed what they could fit into each spacecraft. I'm going to apply some of the lessons that I learned from the design of the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) into an ultra small cabin design I'm working on.
There's nothing new under the sun (or moon either).
