Dark Screen, Bright Idea

Blackle Screen ShotBlackle Screen ShotHeap Media has launched a new initiative to conserve energy by creating an alternative version of Google's ubiquitous search screen called Blackle. Instead of Google's usual white background, the Blackle search screen features a black background with white writing. This idea stemmed from a January blog posting that hypothesized a black Google screen would save 750 Megawatt-hours per year. Pretty innovative idea for conserving energy! Visit Blackle, and check out the Building Green Store for more eco-friendly products and ideas.

Darkoogle

I prefer using Darkoogle http://www.darkoogle.com another black Google and is available in over 40 countries http://www.darkoogle.com/international

Best of all its got the 'similar page' option in the result page like the normal white Google. I use that a lot.

Energy saving black website option could be applied here, BGT

Interesting, I've usually prefered black on white but I'll start prefering the other way around if it really makes a different in energy use. Problem is though that with Opera(browser I often use) and win98 setting desktop to white on black causes graphics problems.

Speaking of, that could be easily applied to this website..*hint hint*

I wonder what kind of monitor those numbers derive from, CRT, LCD or what?

The building green store.. not enough information on items sold there. Like the toilet paper costs $13.95 but what are you getting for that money? How many rolls? How many feet on each roll? Any 1 ply options? Also theres a link that says "Gaiam", what does that mean? When I click on it, the dealtime page that tries to open never loads.

Building Green Store

Hi TruePurple!

Good comments and questions about the Building Green Store - we actually do not have the inventory in this online store, we just have a collection of eco-friendly and green products. To get more information about the product or to buy it you have to click on it once to pull up the info and then click on the retailer name to go to the site for full info.

Hope this helps, and thanks for checking it out!

Screen wattage

Hey yjenkins,

Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to use Blackle!

Your post reminded me of an article I saw earlier this year about a screen pallate that is eco-friendly-- it's called the Emergency-C-  it also appeared on the EcoIron site  http://ecoiron.blogspot.com/2007/01/emergy-c-low-wattage-palette.html - looks great doesn't it?
