Green Moving Trucks

Now when it comes time to move into your new green home, you can call up U-Haul and reserve a new green moving truck to transport your stuff.  Ford will be supplying U-Haul with its new environmentally friendly vehicle paint technology. The first 200 specially painted trucks have already been delivered. Look for a special decal marking the truck as part of the program.

"Painting vehicles has traditionally been one of the auto industry's biggest environmental challenges," said a Ford spokesperson. "Ford has found the solution. It's environmentally sound. It's cost-efficient. And it produces beautifully painted vehicles with long-term durability."

The high-pigment paint covers better with less, and can be applied in a smaller, more efficient paint shop.

This doesn't really seem

This doesn't really seem very 'green' to me. So they paint it a bit better, if it still runs on gasoline/diesel with no fuel efficiency upgrades where's the true 'green' improvement? Sure the paint is a problem, but the paint is a one-time or occasional thing where as the tank is filled frequently with environmentally damaging fuel. This seems me to be a publicity stunt from two companies out to look like they're making environmentally friendly advances without having to put forth too much effort.

how green?

Believe me I share the frustration that things aren't happening faster, but I welcome any and all positive steps that companies are taking towards being more responsible. If companies are finding the low hanging fruit first, that's okay by me. This doesn't let them off the hook for continuing to find environmental enhancements in their businesses, but if they can get some PR wins from taking these baby steps, maybe the steps will get bigger and bigger. I applaud Ford and U-Haul - bravo - keep going!  - maxmsf
