Kevin,
Wondering where the blue jean insulation plant is that you mentioned. I live in Phoenix and would love to use them.
Nicole
Nicole,
You can learn more about blue jean insulation in general here.
Bonded Logic, a company that makes and sells blue jean insulation, is located very close to you in Chandler, AZ.
As you saw on the show, using blue jean insulation can be as easy as cutting it to fit and laying it between ceiling joists for healthy and safe insulation.
Best,
Kevin

blue jean insulation
No local distributor here, but it looks possible to buy it on-line at GreenDepot.com.
Cotton Isn't Green!
Most cotton used in denim manufacturing involves harsh chemicals. Recycling it is wonderful, but what about those original processes used in its manufacture?
looking for alternative insulation for several prolects
I think he's right. The pesticide run off from cotton prodiuction has ruined much of the farmland in Central California south of Fresno. New measures are being tried to reclaim that land for use, at great expence. What to do?
Mushroom insulation
Take a look at this bit we just posted about insulation made from mushroom spores and other organic material ... not sure when it will be available to the public. It almost sounds too good to be true.
40 pairs
What a great idea! My wife has about 40 pairs of jeans (all the same), enough to insulate a house you think? What is it about blue jean that’s so special compared to other types of clothing?
Organic cotton
Hey Jason,
None of those pairs make her butt look big do they? Your wife is just helping the environment by buying blue jeans so there can be cut off pieces for insulation. Nothing special about using jeans for insulation except that there is a lot of it used and a lot of pieces left over. They also throw in cut off pieces from other cotton materials.
**NOTE TO EVERYONE** Buy organic cotton products any time you can. Cotton is the most intensive pesticide-use crop in the world. 25% of all the insecticides used in the world are for cotton growth. It takes one third of a pound of pesticides to make one cotton shirt. Crazy and disgusting isn’t it?
GREEN TIP OF THE DAY FOR ALL ENVIRONMENTALLY MINDED MEN: As often as possible get you wife/girlfriend out of the pair of jeans she’s wearing and give her the good loving she wants. That’s what the jeans are for. Show her that the ones she has are doing the job.
Keep on Loving,
Kevin
Green MLS
Kevin, was wondering if you wanted to discuss the Real Estate end of things.
After people build our great green homes, eventually they need to sell them and need to find like-minded folks that appreciate the great things green homes have to offer. We came up with a great solution. www.ListedGreen.com
the MLS for Green, Energy Efficient, Sustainable Homes for Sale Worldwide.
Your comments please.
Dave
Great!
Dave,
Great! Why not create a site for people to find green homes. Way to go!
Kevin
Even HBO’s Entourage
Even HBO’s Entourage show’s Vince is using it (my favorite show)! Kevin’s much better looking though! Do you think Ari and Lloyd have it in their houses?
Who doesn’t like blue
Who doesn’t like blue jeans, on or off our bodies. If Ari and Lloyd aren’t using it they should be.
Thanks for writing,
Kevin
Pricing
I thought the same thing. I couldn’t find any pricing on their site. Kevin can you let us know how much you paid for yours? Do the distributors charge different prices? Great show. My wife and I can’t wait to see the full season!
Hundreds of pairs
That’s great. It doesn’t seem scaleable though - it must take hundreds of pairs of blue jeans to insulate a single house. I can’t imagine that this concept could really go mainstream…. am I wrong?
I would assume that the
I would assume that the amount of scraps from all the jeans being produced would be pretty abundant.
Waste not
On the show they actually stated that clothing manufacturing and especially cottons are the most wasteful of them all. They are making this insulation out of the scraps that cannot be used to make a pair of jeans.
Meeting demand
Pam,
I don’t believe the blue jean insulation manufacturers are having any problem meeting demand. The more we use products like this the more companies will get on board. http://www.bondedlogic.com/insulator.htm Look at the bonded logc site for more information.
