PLASTIC BOTTLES AND BPA

One thing's for sure when learning about 'being green', and that's what we don't see can hurt us. We know plastic bottles are trouble for the environment but you'd think plastic bottles which have been around for so long wouldn't be harmful to people.

This is not the case with the use of a chemical binder called Bisphenol A, or bpa's which have been 'suspected of being hazardous to humans since the 1930's' BPA and only in 2008 is its safety going from being questioned to being taken off the shelf. The movement to ban has been effective when it comes to baby bottles. But bpa's are also found in the lining of soda cans, and soda bottles, which are not banned.
Some stores are taking it upon themselves to ban all the merchandise that contains BPA, but it's unclear whether or not to what extent this could truly be accomplished. BPA IN BOTTLES Each state is able to determine whether or not to ban products containing BPA which some have. The country still hasn't put a a ban on the products even though reports continuously show harm to health. Mostly citing the reason being that the amount of BPA is too small to cause harm. This reason is being heavily questioned still, as the links to cancer prevail. For more information on bpa's that goes into great detail, check out www.treehugger.com.

Problems with plastics

Health-related issues due to BPA in bottles isn't our only problem. Picture all the floating plastic the size of Texas located in the middle of the Pacific near Hawaii with an estimated three million tons of debris. This alone answers the question that plastics are a huge problem for our environment and health. Plastics biodegrade very slowly, it could take up to 600 years for a plastic bottle to decompose, therefore, even long after it is thrown away, whether it remains in the landfill or reaches the ocean, plastics look like they are here to stay.

While cleaning up our mess might not be the best tactic, we can divert new plastics from landfill to factories. There are several businesses and manufacturers using plastics to create renewable materials. Such as 2k Manufacturing that turns plastic into ECOSHEET or plywood for buildings.

I guess someone's trash is another's treasure.

enviromental friendly plastic

Currently there's a man in the Netherlands who is manufactering bio-degradable plastic it is desolved in about 3 months and the pallets can be desolved in your mouth in a few minutes.
The plastic is manufacterd out of milk which still can be used for consumption afterwards.
And because of it's biological background it helps preservation of milk by a couple of days and even beer has been good to drink after a couple of years after being botled in this plasticbotle.
Unfortunetly I forgot the name of the company but maybe someone else knows the name of the company...
Maybe this can solve a bigger future problem.
