ABOUT THE HOME:
Featured at Keystone Green Building Initiative’s kickoff, this green home was built by David Hartke, co-chair of HBA of Bucks/Montgomery Green Task Force. It was the first green home built under the green home guidelines created by the Keystone Green Building Initiative.
KEY ASPECTS THAT MAKE THIS HOME GREEN:
Orientation and Landscaping
• A solar shade device on the second floor, south-facing window (all other south-facing windows have roof overhangs as shading devices)
• Rain garden designed to collect storm water and infiltrate back into aquifer
Indoor Air Quality
• Exhaust fans in bathrooms with timers provide added moisture elimination
• Exhaust fan in garage exhausts carbon monoxide
Heating and Cooling
• Heat Recovery Ventilation system allows for fresh air support with heat transfer
• Enclosed foyer provides “heat trap” at primary entrance
Efficient Appliances
• Photovoltaic panels on roof that provide electricity using solar radiation.
• Low flow plumbing fixtures
• Engineered flexible plumbing tubing with manifold distribution
Green Materials
• Wood flooring
• Recycled (and recyclable) carpeting
• Composite decking and porch railing: recycled material with minimal maintenance required
