The spikes act to lift and separate the clothing for free air and heat circulation. Dryer Balls say they can reduce your drying time by 25%, even up to 40%. This is good news, for long term reduction in electric bills and living eco-friendly. One thing to think about is the production of the dryer balls and the PVC it takes to make them isn't so bio-degradable. However, the Dryer Ball is said to reduce static, and soften clothes, very eco-friendly if used to replace bottles of fabric softeners and boxes of dryer sheets. DRYER BALLS DO NOT WORK. I DID A SCIENCE EXPERIMENT ON THEM AND WHEN THE DRYER BALLS ARE IN THE DRYER THE TOWELS TAKE LONGER TO DRY THEN WITHOUT DRYER BALLS.
