2020 Lawrence

How nice would it be to consider buying a condo and then find out that it will actually cost you less to purchase a solar photovoltaic system with your unit than to buy one without?

That's what's happening at 2020 Lawrence in Denver, Colorado.

The LEED-certified condo community (ground will be broken next year, but units are already for sale!), has been designed with a 50,000-watt PV system that will produce enough energy to power all the common areas.

And, according to an article in the Rocky Mountain News, a fantastically green deal with Countrywide Financial will give buyers with the roof-mounted, 2-kilowatt PV systems a quarter-point break on 30-year mortgages. That interest rate cut, electrical savings and tax credits will provide buyers with a total estimated savings of $417 a year.

Hopefully, this will pave the way for even more building partnerships that benefit both buyers and the environment.

Until then, we're just jealous of the folks in Colorado who've already nabbed a unit at 2020 Lawrence!
