Earthen Wall Repair?

A reader wrote in:

Hi Kevin. I am looking for some advice on repairing our exterior earthenwalls on our strawbale house. Last summer a hale storm pocked the south wall and we need to rapair. The walls have a lime wash as sealer. I'm thinking the recipe should be sand, prickly pear cactus juice, clay, manure, like our original recipe. I'm hoping the mud repair will stick tothe lime and I'm thinking we have to feather the pock marks out in all directions. Anyway, do you have any advice?

Thanks, Jessica

Jessica, It sounds like you

Jessica,

It sounds like you know quite a lot about it already. I am not a plaster expert, but  It is surly best to use the same mixture you first put on the walls.  Feathering should not be necessary, but your mixture needs to be tested.  The nice thing is that you can test one spot and repair what you do until you like it.  Then you'll know just how to proceed.
